This review is from: Brew Your Medicine: How To Use Basic Kitchen Equipment To Brew Custom Herbal Beers (Paperback)

I found this book to be full of good information about brewing herbal beers. I am an herbalist and I am used to making herbal preparations, but I have never brewed beer before. This is NOT a step-by-step guide to brewing beer. The author assumes that you have some brewing experience. She lost me a couple times with that assumption and some terminology that was easily looked up. This book would be great for those who already brew beer and want to make herbal beers.

Isn’t it wonderful that we can take our medicine in the form of beer?? You gotta love that!!!

I expected more from this book for the price. About half the book is dedicated to explaining basic brewing procedures. I’m an experienced homebrewer, so this part of the book wasn’t very useful to me. Moreover, there are better books out there to guide you in making beer. Randy Mosher’s Radical Brewing is a good one.
My main disappointment was with the lack of information about specific herbs and their medicinal properties. There are some passing references to certain herbs and their role in Chinese medicine but that’s about it. The author includes only a handful of recipes.
If you’re looking for a brewing book, you can do better. If you’re looking for a basic herbology book, look elsewhere.
