I have been trying to be pretty diligent about reviewing everything from Central Waters Brewing Company that I come across, as each time I try another beer from them, I am more impressed with their portfolio. Tonight I will be checking out their American Barleywine, which is called Central Waters Kosmyk Charlie’s Y2K Catastrophe Ale. The beer is named after a Grateful Dead song named Cosmic Charlie, and has an unlisted ABV content.
Central Waters Kosmyk Charlie’s Y2K Catastrophe Ale is a hazy, brown colored beer, glowing a hazy reddish color when held up to a light. A small and short-lived tan head briefly tops it off, with a fair amount of sticky lacing remaining behind.
The nose is primarily focused on a robust caramel malt presentation, with a hint of alcohol spice peeking through as well.
Syrupy caramel malts dominate the taste as well, fruity ester accents, warming alcohol spice, with floral and citrus hop notes lingering in the background. The mouth is full bodied and chewy.
Central Waters Kosmyk Charlie’s Y2K Catastrophe Ale is a high gravity beer done right, loaded down with caramel goodness. It is yet another example of the quality beers that Central Waters Brewing Company produces, and anyone who is a fan of American Barleywines will certainly enjoy this brew.
