A number of new breweries have been showing up on my local shelves, and tonight I will give a beer a try from Crazy Mountain Brewing Company, which is out of Colorado. The beer I will check out is an Americanized ESB with 6% Alcohol By Volume called Crazy Mountain Horseshoes & Hand Grenades.
Crazy Mountain Horseshoes & Hand Grenades is a clear copper colored beer, which supports a small off-white head. Scattered traces of lacing adorn the glass here and there.
The nose is mainly English and caramel malts, with some fruity hop notes mingling in the background.
The hops emerge a bit more in the taste, fruity and citrusy with floral accents, but the malts still take center stage, lightly toasted and bready with caramel undertones. The mouth is a touch fuller than medium bodied and moderately carbonated.
Crazy Mountain Horseshoes & Hand Grenades probably won’t blow the socks off of extreme beer devotees, but it is a nice ESB with an American twist in the hop department. Nicely balanced and drinkable, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades would serve well as an all-night drinker. A nice intro to a brewery I haven’t tried before but will check out again.
