Tonight I came across a new beer from Green Flash Brewing Company called Road Warrior Imperial Rye IPA. It’s a Rye Beer with 9% Alcohol By Volume (ABV), and is available during the summer. Green Flash’s hop-forward beers have been consistently impressing me since they became available in my political subdivision, so I am looking forward to checking this beer out.
Green Flash Road Warrior Imperial Rye IPA is a brown colored beer, glowing a clear orange-red when held up to a light. A small tan head tops it off, with a fair amount of sticky lacing on the glass.
The nose has a fair amount of spicy rye grains, toasted malts, with citrus and grapefruit hops along with a more piney variety.
Toasty malts start things off in the taste, lots of syrupy and spicy rye notes, accented by fruity esters in the peach and apricot range, high hop flavor starting floral, citrus, grapefruit and tropical fruit, with high resinous hop bitterness lingering long in the finish. Alcohol spice mingles with the spicy rye notes. The mouth is fairly full, actively carbonated, slightly warming and lightly creamy.
I was expecting something good when I first peeped Green Flash Road Warrior Imperial Rye IPA, and I am not disappointed. Very full flavored with lots of elements working together, this beer is another in their line of hop-head-pleasing beers.
