My love affair with Chicago continues, and I couldn’t be happier about it. What a delightful city! I am convinced, that there really is something for everyone here… and if you haven’t found something to bring you joy in Chicago, then you are most likely either too lazy to find it, or just not an excitable person.
The long holiday weekend had many people out and about on adventures and such, but I had to work on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I was afraid that I wasn’t going to have much fun. I was wrong. My roommate and I both work at the same place, so it’s rare that we have the same days off. Luckily, we both had Monday off, and wanted to revel in that as much as possible.
We woke up in the morning and went for a stroll down the street to our friendly neighborhood Starbucks. While there, the rain really started to come down, so we decided to stick it out for a bit inside to see if it was going to calm down. It quickly became clear that the rain was not going to let up in the extremely near future, so we ventured back out to puddle jump our way home. After drying off a bit, we got in the car to go visit my Step Dad in the hospital (he had surgery last week and is doing well… going home today). We took him for a few laps around the hall, and chatted for a bit before saying goodbye and collecting the family pass to the Museum of Science and Industry. Let’s hear it for free admission!

We had a great time at the museum! It’s so hands-on and interactive that you can’t NOT have fun. So we had fun taking photos and running around. The weather exhibit was really interesting and a lot of fun. The baby chicks were a hit as always. I’d say one of my favorite things was interacting with robots. We were just goofy, and having a blast the entire time we were there. Here is a picture of us in the wind tunnel with speeds of up to 80 mph to demonstrate the wind speed of a tornado.

After the museum, we decided that we would not be doing our duties as Chicagoans if we didn’t go to a bar to watch the Blackhawks play game two of the Stanley Cup Finals with a hundred or so complete strangers. So, we headed to Wild Goose in Lincoln Square. We got there just in time to get a table. We planted ourselves down a mere 5 minutes or so before the huge rush. We really lucked out. They had plenty of TVs, 10 cent wings, and good beer. We were pretty happy. We stayed there for the 1st period, then let some more hardcore fans have our table, and we moved our party to Andersonville.

We met up with some friends at their apartment, then walked to Fat Cat to catch the rest of the game and wish a happy voyage to our friend who is moving back to South Carolina. We thought she needed to be in on this fun Chicago (hockey) experience before she fled town. I can pretty much promise you that I will be going back to the Fat Cat. The service was excellent, the food was amazing, and the drinks were great. It was just a really great place to spend a summer evening with friends.

We had a great day, the Blackhawks won, and we just enjoyed this amazing city! Always something new to see or experience, new people to meet, and fun to be had. If you have any suggestions of places I should check out, please let me know. I’d love some suggestions.
