It is extremely rare that I have a weekend day off. Sometimes, when I have a Saturday or Sunday (or… both) off, I don’t seem to know what to do with myself. I’m so used to drowning in weekend retail duties. Well it just so happened that I had Sunday off, and I knew that I wanted to get to the Art Institute with a friend as I hadn’t been in quite some time. I also knew that there was a Matisse exhibit that I would probably be wise to scope out if I was going to go to the museum. So… off I went, with my friend, to the Matisse exhibit at the Art Institute. I was actually less than impressed. Now… I wouldn’t read too much into that as Matisse is certainly not my favorite. It was also less enjoyable due to the number of people there (there is something to be said for going to a museum on a Wednesday afternoon when it’s too cold for tourists to even look at Chicago on a map). I was hoping that the exhibit would speak to me in one way or another, and perhaps even deepen my appreciation for Matisse. Sadly, this was not the case. That being said, I am certain that if you are a Matisse fan, you will adore the exhibit.

Lack of excitement about the exhibit aside, I had a pretty great Sunday off. I got to spend time with a great new friend, see some art, learn more about public transportation here in Chicago, and just relax a bit. Not too shabby at all.
