Tonight I will be checking out a limited release beer from Lagunitas Brewing Company called Lagunitas Cappuccino Stout, which as you can probably guess is an Imperial Stout infused with some coffee.
Lagunitas Cappuccino Stout is a black bodied beer, with deep ruby red hues shining through when held up to a light source. A medium sized, durable tan head tops it off, with a lot of sticky lacing remaining behind after each sip.
Coffee notes stand out in the taste, complemented with roasted barley, hints of darker fruits, and some spicy alcohol in the background.
Dark roasted malts start things out in the taste, the coffee playing more of a support role than in the scent, hints of darker fruits in the transition, with a bit of citrusy hops rounding things out. Alcohol spice is well blended but shows up a bit if looked for. Mouth is medium bodied with some carbonic bite.
Lagunitas Cappuccino Stout is a nicely crafted brew, and it should satisfy any fans of coffee stouts. The coffee is seamlessly integrated, not overwhelming the flavor but rather playing a nice supporting role. Worth a look for sure.
