Today I will be checking out the 5th edition of the Hop Kitchen Series from New Belgium Brewing, which is a Rye Beer with 7.5% Alcohol By Volume called New Belgium RyePA. on the label is a hop frog wearing an aviator’s hat and sporting a moustache worthy of George Parros.
New Begium RyePA is a copper colored beer, shining a brilliant orange when held up to a light source. A fairly large, cream colored head tops it off, with plenty of sticky lacing remaining behind on the glass.
The nose has some spicy rye notes, with plenty of fruity hop accents, grapefruit, tropical fruit and dark berry.
Bready malts start thing off in the taste, with spicy rye and caramel accents, neutral yeast transition, with medium hop bitterness and medium-high hop flavor starting lightly floral, citrus, with lots of grapefruit and berry notes rounding it out. Body and carbonation are both medium, with a light creaminess.
New Belgium RyePA is very fine Rye Beer, with a nice malt profile that adds some depth to the taste, while still allowing the fruity array of hops to take center stage. Definitely worth checking out.
