Tonight I will be checking out a beer that I haven’t had before called New Holland Blue Sunday Sour, which is an American Wild Ale with 6.6% Alcohol By Volume (2014 edition). Blue Sunday Sour is part of New Holland’s Barrel Aged beers, and is a blend of several of different sour beers that they brew.
New Holland Blue Sunday Sour is a brown colored beer, glowing a clear ruby red when held up to a light. A ring of a tan head circles the glass, with not much lacing remaining behind.
Lactic acid is the most prominent element of the scent, with cherries and other fruity notes accompanying.
Lots of tart and sour notes in the taste as well, cherry, oaky and vanilla notes, a touch of lemon with hints of chocolate. The mouth is quite sharp with a dry finish.
New Holland Blue Sunday Sour is a pretty straightforward beer, letting the sour notes take center stage. Priced right and quite tasty, Blue Sunday Sour is likely to become a yearly purchase for me, and fans of Wild Ales should check it out.
