Tonight I will be checking out a new spring seasonal release from Summit Brewing Company, Minnesota’s largest craft brewery. It is a Rye Beer with 5.8% Alcohol By Volume called Summit Frost Line Rye. Spring is just starting to break out around here, so it seems like a good time to check this beer out.
Summit Frost Line Rye is a brown colored beer, shining a crystal clear orange when held up to a light source. A medium-large, cream colored head floats atop, leaving behind a complex web of lacing on the glass.
The nose is all about spicy and syrupy rye notes, accented with caramel.
Toasty malts start off the taste, caramel, with spicy rye, hints of grain, neutral yeast, with bright hop flavors in the tropical fruit and citrus range closing things out. Lingering low-bitterness in the aftertaste. Mouth is medium bodied with moderate levels of carbonation.
Summit Frost Line Rye is a pretty interesting beer, in that while the rye takes center stage, in a supporting role there is a fair amount of bright fruity hops in the background. Tasty and smooth drinking, Summit Frost Line Rye impresses enough to warrant a purchase of a 12-pack for a nice drinkable beer to have on hand.
