Perfect for beer-brewing neophytes, this book covers the basics of the beer brewing process, introduces each ingredient and its role, and provides inexpensive solutions to common complications. The writing is clear and concise and accompanied by colorful photographs which were especially useful while brewing my first batch of beer. Not only did the numerous pictures help me verify I was completing each step correctly, but they are also an aesthetic delight. One of the most exciting features to me was the detailed explanation of the chemical structures of each of the ingredients. Not only was it fascinating to learn about, but I now have a better understanding of how to make my own flavors of beer using this intimate knowledge of the fermentation process. If you are just getting started in the beer brewing world or want to try brewing for the first time, this book is a great choice! It would be great if the author could come out with a second book with more recipes as this text is mainly about the process.

This is an excellent book for beginners who are just getting their start in homebrewing. It is well written and easy to understand. All of the topics covered are explained in a way that makes them informative but not overly complicated. Some other homebrew books are so in depth with details and formulas that newbies are turned off by the hobby. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is just starting out on their homebrewing adventure or for anyone who just wants to know the basics of how beer is made.
